"Relaxing Into Life" Set

"Relaxing Into Life: Carry Cards for Inspiration and Guidance". A set of 52 cards, with supporting book: daily and moment-to-moment reminders, inspiration and integration of wisdom and Lifepowers.

August 2008 update I am excited to tell you that this project (previously "Lifepower Cards") is sailing ahead! Here's the latest.

From the Introduction:

"Are you feeling stressed and struggling? Relax. "How can I relax?!" Perhaps you can't imagine feeling easy, "Because..." Lots of buts. Your situation... There is a lot in the world that tells us we have much to worry about, get stressed over, wound up about, and generally afraid for. Pressures are increasing not only from the world around us, also from within; not only individually and socially, also as a maturing species at a crucial stage in our evolution. So much to 'make' us tense!

And yet. . . and yet. . . Relax. People from all cultures through all ages have been telling us, "fear not", to trust life, and that its not so much the situation as our way of looking at it that is stressful and 'makes' us upset. They have been teaching us again and again that no matter how dire things may look, hope is justified, and inner peace is possible no matter what our situation may be. They have taught us ways of releasing stress regularly, of generating 'life force' or energy flow, and that to cultivate basic health care, inner peace, and a loving and positive mind benefits all.

We can learn – and its such a relief! – that 'difficult' times are a call to respond with growing inner resources."

"Relaxing Into Life" is a set of 52 cards, with accompanying book: either can be used independently. The cards focus our practice and guide us to live and grow our wisdom daily, so that we can increasingly live at ease with life, instead of chronically stressed and struggling against the world and ourselves.

"Relaxing Into Life" cards offer inspiration, plus guidance for practising to develop our skills and abilities. Pick a card, any card. Then carry it with you to focus your practice through the day. This is how we ground our insights and inspirations into daily living. Following what interests and attracts, what we enjoy, letting ourselves be challenged to discover deeper wisdom and empowering abilities.

I made these cards not so much because I know the territory through my nearly forty years of exploration, study and practice, as because I forget, and I am glad to have simple reminders of what I most want and value in life: to feel at ease, inner peace; to know I am loved and to love; to be able to enjoy and appreciate every day, whatever it brings; to care for my body well; to live and flow with life in a way that benefits the whole of Earth's life and all her living beings.

"Relaxing Into Life" has gathered up and synthesized the wisdom teachings of perennial philosophy with health practices. They are real treasures that have been around a long time, well tried and tested by people from every culture all over the world.

The fields of "Relaxing Into Life" for reminders and exploration include

  • Breath, posture and other basic facets of body-based care and skills
  • Presence, making attention and choices conscious
  • Allowing, and other forms of non-resistance, such as letting go, and releasing judgement
  • The powers of gratitude, gentleness, blessing, laughter
  • Creative mind and cultivating positive attitude
  • Connecting with Earth, expanding awareness of her water, ground and air, her life which is our life
  • Unity

The "Relaxing Into Life" Book, which can be explored with or independently from the cards, leads us to follow our interests more deeply, with my reflections, and through links to book and online resources, plus recommending great teachers, past and present. In the introduction I sketch out the bones of Relaxing Into Life, and how we are learning that the roots of much of our distress, unhappiness and living against life are within ourselves. Our own minds hold the most powerful keys to Relaxing Into Life, and once we know this through our own experience, we are reclaiming and able to bring our creative powers to the service of life.
